Black Bear Hunting:

A combination of genetics and very low hunting pressure make the Newfoundland Black Bear bigger than any of their cousins found in North America. Frequently weighing in over 500 lbs., their numbers are estimated at over 10 thousand animals. It is only a matter of time before a Newfoundland Black Bear shatters the current North American records. These magnificent predators make for an interesting hunt for the knowledgeable, fearless, and experienced hunter.

Bow Hunting:

As stated on previous pages, Newfoundland offers a bowhunting season that opens 2 weeks earlier than the standard rifle hunting season. This will give the bowhunter and unprecedented opportunity to engage in a world class bow hunt.

Our guides are fully experienced and qualified to lead you to a succesful bowhunting trip. For more information, please contact Grey Lake East Outfitters at 1-709-543-2274, 1-709-427-1200, or email us at

Black Powder Hunting:

Black powder game hunting requires a finesse of a seasoned guide. Our guiding experience with black powder rifles will insure that your trip will be a successful one.

Our guides are fully experienced and qualified to lead you to a succesful black powder hunting trip. For more information, please contact Grey Lake East Outfitters at 1-709-543-2274, 1-709-427-1200, or email us at

Temperatures can vary during the fall season from 60F / 5 C during the day to slightly below freezing at night. We suggest light fleece or woolen outer clothing supplemented by thermal underclothing, light rubber marshboots (below the knee with tapered ankle), rain gear, gloves, hat and woolen socks. Blaze orange is not a requirement and camouflage is suggested but not essential.

Binoculars and Cameras:

Quality binoculars are important when sizing up your trophy: 7X35 being a good choice. We recommend bringing a camera, preferably a 35 mm with a telephoto lens to capture your hunting experience. Compact camcorders and digital cameras are also very popular.

Popular calibers are 30-06, 270, 338, and 7 mm. All have sufficient power and range for our game. Rifles should be sighted for 150 - 200 yards.

Hunters wishing to use air transportation into Newfoundland for their trip may fly into Stephenville or Deer Lake. Hunters will be greeted at either of the airports and escorted to the lodge.
